Happy Endings

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”- Walt Disney

As children, many of us grow up watching Disney movies, many of them fairy-tales. We grow up with the illusion that life is full of fairy-tales and happy endings, and that the good guys always win. Only.. after awhile, we grow older and are fantasies are trashed when life hits, also known as reality. Our dreams, then, become a place of escape. A place where all our dreams really can come true. Life is a gift, it really is a beautiful thing. Nevertheless..sorrow, anxiety, pain, loneliness and  heartbreak exists.. and does not allow our entire experience on this earth to be a bouquet of roses.

So, is there such a thing as living the dream? Is there really such a thing as having a fairy-tale ending? I mean, surely, there is more to the Cinderella story, than having a happy ending with the man of her dreams. Is “living the dream” attainable for anybody? Do you have to be a certain height, weight, ethnicity or have a certain religious background? Do you have to dress a particular way or like a specific thing to attain this? Or.. are there just a few handpicked people in this world, predestined to live the dream. Is there such a thing? Or.. is all this that I am saying a bunch of ramble, and senseless pondering?

I prefer to think that it is not. I like to think that we are all equal. That we are all born with the same opportunity, though we may be born a child of struggle. I say this, because I believe in hope. I believe in love. And I believe in peace. I believe that for every dream there is an opportunity. Often, we are not in the right place at the right time. Often, we are not surrounded by the right people to lift us up when we are down and trodden. Sometimes we fail to get back up, to try again. Truth is.. we can be our own worst enemy, holding our own-selves back from attaining success.

Reality is, there is not always a happy ending. That’s just life. But as long as we are still living and breathing, we have hope and a chance to make the best out of what we have, where we are. We still have a chance… to make a difference in this world, somehow, to live our dream. Some say that we are only living to die… but if hope really does exist.. then there must be something worth all the pain and struggle in this life, waiting on the other side.

So no matter how the story of my life turns out… I will do all I possibly can to make sure I have a happy ending. Even if it’s just to put a smile on the face of a stranger. Because that alone, could make somebody’s day and change someone’s world. And with that.. I would be happy.
