Surviving the Single Season

Part 1: Be Thankful

“To live your best life now, you must learn to trust God’s timing, you may not think He’s working, but you can be sure that right now, behind the scenes, God is arranging all the pieces to come together to work out His plan for your life.”

medium_5890728785Last night, I discovered an amazing list of prayers, for single women to pray for their future mate, while they are still in what I call, the single season. Some people embrace their singleness with strength. While the rest of us, we cling onto any piece of encouragement we can get to with-hold a positive mindset. When everyone around us seems to be engaging in flourishing-romantic relationships, how do we stray away from envy and jealousy, which is a sin according to the bible? How do we avoid sinful fantasies and lustful temptations? How do we keep our heart and minds focused on getting closer to God, when we have this longing and desire for something else; For someone else to come and fill a vacant spot in our lives?

If you do a bit of searching in the scriptures, you will discover that it is normal to desire a husband. Nothing is wrong with that at all. Sometimes we may get conflicted within our own selves, wondering if our desire is according to God’s will or not.. But, I say, if you have the desire, so strong that you think about it daily, then 9 times out of 10, it is Gods will. Chances are, if you are called to a life of singleness, then at some point in your life, when you are in the right place with God, you will become at peace with his decision for your life. If this is not the case, then I bet ya it’s more than likely, in God’s plan for your life. Notice I said, ‘his’ plan for your life. Once we totally surrender our will to him and can whole-heartedly pray, ‘Lord, not my will, but thine will be done, in earth as it is in heaven’ (The Lords Prayer), then we can truly be at peace in our single season. Chances are, it’s exactly that… being single for just a season.

The length of your single season is up to God. We have to acknowledge God in all our ways and trust that he will direct our path. This means that in his timing, things will fall into place. So what should we do with ourselves in this single season? I don’t know about you, but for me, the waiting period is always the most challenging part, because I am both anxious and excited to see what the future holds. And, even when we pray and search the scriptures, we can’t find God’s will for our lives in black and white print, down to the very last detail. But there is one thing that God desires for us to do, while we wait, and that is to be thankful.

While we are awaiting a blessing, we are to focus on what God has already done for us. Not only that, but we are to praise God for who he is. Often times, we are too busy thinking about what we are praying for, for ourselves, that we forget to pray for somebody else. So this week, I encourage you to practice praying unselfish prayers.

First, come before God in praise and worship.

Second, repent of all your sinful wrong doings.

Third, Thank him for forgiveness and strength to obey his word.

Four, Pray to submit your will to his. Thank him for letting his will be done in your life.

Five, Once you have left your request before God, pray for someone else.

You don’t have to keep reminding God of your request every time you pray.

Just thank God for it being done in Jesus name. Look for it. Be patient and appreciate God’s timing.

Again, pray for someone else.

When the praises go up, the blessings will come down.

This will be my focus today. Each day this week, I will post about surviving the single season. Today, I encourage you to indulge in Gods word, as you pray. Believe, and in his timing, you shall receive. Here are some verses to get you started…

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Matthew 7:7 – Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Psalms 31:24 – Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Psalms 67: 5-7  -Let the people praise thee O God, let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase, and God, even our own God shall bless us. God shall bless us. And all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
