“… A girl born without the fear gene.”
When I was a teenager, I was obsessed with a novel series of books called Fearless by Francine Pascal. I remember, I collected the entire series, minus the two or three books I was unlucky to find. But, I held onto the books that I had, for as long as I could. It wasn’t the author or the story-line that intrigued me the most, although it was dramatic, intense and highly captivating in many ways.. It was the main character, Gaia, which means”earth.” Gaia was a strong and independent female, who had an extremely intense past, present and future. As a reader, I was always on the edge of my seat, not knowing what would happen next. Nevertheless, I could always expect that Gaia would come through. She would do what she had to do, no matter what violent attack, whether physical or verbal, came her way. She was absolutely fearless!
I want that.. I want to have such a boldness that is ruthless and immovable. I want to be humble but carefree. I want to have a perfect balance between the two.
Over the past few days, I have had several experiences, in which I’ve had to stand strong in the face of fear. Two weeks ago, my dad had a heart attack. That same week, was my first week working at my new internship. It was both exciting and nerve-racking. For both scenarios, I had to step outside of my comfort zone. I was assigned tasks that I was nervous about doing. Deep down, I knew I had what it took to do what needed to be done, but I wouldn’t be able to do it successfully, unless I became like Gaia. At least, a little bit. I had to become fearless. I had to focus on the end goal, and embrace a determination that would surely carry me to the end. And it did.
Today, I just want to encourage you to be fearless. That may not be entirely possible, when we are depending on our own strenghs and our own abilities. However, nothing is impossible with God. With the help of God, we can overcome fear and succeed in every circumstance. We can do what we have to do with boldness and courage. The key, is to look to Jesus and to trust in him and be confident in who he has created us to be. Knowing, that he has made us well able to accomplish what he has set out for us to do. You can do it… I believe in you and I believe in me! By the grace of God, we can and will stand strong in the face of fear.
Be confident in who God has created you to be.
